Where to Take the French Civic Exam: Centers & Booking Strategy

Last updated: December 2025

The French Civic Exam is administered by centers authorized by the Ministry of the Interior, not at the Prefecture.

There is no single "Exam Center Map." Instead, two main organizations manage the network. Here is how to find a center near you, and what to do if they are all fully booked. For step-by-step booking instructions, see our registration guide.

Quick Facts

  • 2 providers: CCIP and FEI
  • Price: ~€70 (varies)
  • Registration: Online only
  • Exam anywhere: Not tied to residence

1. The Two Official Providers

You can take the exam with either organization. The certificate is exactly the same.

A. CCIP (Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie)

  • Primary Locations: Paris & Île-de-France (Suburbs)
  • Also present in: Major hubs like Lyon, Nice, Montpellier

B. FEI (France Éducation International)

  • Primary Locations: A vast network of partner schools (Alliance Française, Universities)
  • Best for: Smaller cities and rural regions

2. How to Choose a Center?

  1. 1
    Check Availability First

Don't pick based on the brand (CCIP vs FEI). Pick the date that fits your deadline.

  2. 2
    Check the Equipment

Most centers use tablets. Some older centers might use computers with mice. Tablets are generally more user-friendly.

  3. 3
    Accessibility

If you have a disability, call the center before booking to ensure they are wheelchair accessible (ERP standards).

5. What to Bring on Exam Day

  • Valid ID (passport, or residence permit - copies not accepted)
  • Printed Convocation (do not rely solely on your phone)

Arrive 20 minutes early. Late arrivals are often refused entry. No dictionaries, phones, or smartwatches allowed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I walk in and register on the day?
No. Registration is strictly online and closes usually 7 days before the exam date. No walk-ins are accepted.
My friend took the test at the Prefecture. Can I?
No. That was the old system (before 2026). Now, everything is privatized through CCIP and FEI centers. You must go to an external center.
Is the price the same everywhere?
The price is approximately €70, but it can vary by exam center. Check the center's website when registering.
Can I take the exam in a different city from where I live?
Yes! You have the legal right to take the exam anywhere in France. You are not tied to your department of residence.
How do I find available dates?
Dates are displayed when registering on the CCIP or FEI website. Check BOTH websites as availability varies by center.
